PROGRAMME
Broadcast material is delivered through live programme, 3-minute news clip and additional short-form content.
COMPETITION FORMAT
- 42.195 kilometres (26.2 miles) run.
- Course begins and ends in Berlin’s Tiergarten and regularly produces fast performances and world records.
- Part of the high-profile Abbott World Marathon Majors (Berlin, Boston, Chicago, London, New York and Tokyo).
- A prize purse of USD 1 million is divided between the top male and female contenders.
- The current world record for the women’s marathon (02:11:53) was achieved in 2023 by Ethiopian athlete Tigst Assefa. The second-fastest ever men’s marathon time (02:01:09) was achieved at the 2022 edition by Eliud Kipchoge.
- 50th anniversary in 2024.

- RACE is held annually on the last Sunday in September
- START varies between 08:00 – 10:00 CET
- DURATION – the World Feed is approximately 3 hours (covering the fastest male and female runners)
