PRODUCTION

Selected games produced with 8 cameras in HD 16/9 by the WCF’s in-house team, World Curling TV (WCTV). Live programming is available at the venue or via satellite with English commentary. Daily News Feeds are available via satellite and/or FTP within an hour of the end of play.

GAMES

Up to 3 sessions per day, with at least one game per session produced (approximately 4-5 games each day).

SCHEDULING 

Each day of competition has 3 SESSIONS (morning, afternoon and evening) during the round robin stage.
6-9 HOURS of live coverage per day depending on the number of games produced.
WCTV will continue LIVE COVERAGE until there are no remaining games in the session.

COMPETITION FORMAT

WORLD CURLING CHAMPIONSHIP

  • 9 days each; Women’s event in March, Men’s event in April.
  • World’s top 13 curling teams qualified from the WCF’s Pan Continental and European zonal championships.
  • Round robin format to determine qualification for the finals.
  • Teams gain qualification points for the Winter Olympic Games in the two championship years running up to the next Games; all teams competing at a World Championship are eligible for the WCF’s Olympic Qualification Event.

EUROPEAN CURLING CHAMPIONSHIP

  • 1 week in November featuring Men’s and Women’s competitions.
  • In the A Division, Europe’s top 10 Men’s and Women’s teams compete to qualify for the following World Championships. The two lowest ranked teams face relegation to the B Division.

PAN CONTINENTAL CURLING CHAMPIONSHIP

  • 1 week in late October/early November featuring Men’s and Women’s competitions.
  • These championships merge two World Curling zones (Pacific-Asia and Americas) into one tiered route to the World Championship.
